What everyone gets wrong about the butterfly effect
Chaos theory is weirder than you think. Try everything Brilliant has to offer for free for 30 days: www.brilliant.org/simonclark
When people talk about the butterfly effect, they miss a large part of what makes chaos theory so incredible. Lets talk about that, and what it tells us about Earth's atmosphere.

What does the butterfly effect say about chaos theory? What is the science of the butterfly effect? Where does chaos theory come from? Is the butterfly effect real? Who discovered the butterfly effect? All this and more in this science video essay about the butterfly effect and how chaos theory is weird. Weirder than you think. I made it through the whole video without making a single Warhammer reference!

Good presentation on the history of the push to pin the base cause of climate variability on CO2 levels. It highlights well the selectivity of those who are now pushing an agenda that does not care about the full picture when a partial one serves the purposes of fear and control much better.

The scientists don’t agree that carbon is the cause of heating, it may be inconvenient but there is no evidence ever of CO2 rising in advance of the earth warming. CO2 rises after the temperature rises. Please look at that science.

The fact that you would expect that more censorship is needed to suppress skepticism which is at the core of science, says a lot about your scientific mindset. My experience is that skepticism is generally inversely proportional to the quality of science. I do not see much skepticism in Newton's Law or Einstain relativity, do we? I do not know of any questioning Maxwell equations or Navier-Stokes' for what matters or first or second law of thermodynamics. Drifting into a political battle is not helping your point either.

A CO2e tax going up 10% per year and pausing when one's city is CO2e negative, with tax revenue going to technologies mentioned in Project Drawdown, would be net revenue neutral and provide volununtary but not obligatory incentives (babysitting the US) to be ecologically sane on a planet of finite resources.

This totally coincided with the use of inorganic fertilisers. Desertification is the biggest cause of climate change. CO2 self adjusts itself over time. It is also dramatically affected by volcanoes. Better land management would lower the temperature of vast areas of the world.

If you really want to educate yourself on the FACTS of our Earth’s climate don’t listen to those who get paid to lie to you! When someone like this person makes a broad statement, like humans are “causing” climate change, do not believe it without any evidence from the person making the statement. I’ve been learning about the sun’s relationship to climate for more than 20 years. The Tech Journals and a couple dozen PhD’s are the rare few who know and can prove what causes climate change. It is not humans, we are insignificant to this massive planet, less than 15% of the Earth is currently habitable, 85% not at all. The sun is the primary cause of all the weather cycles, geological changes, magnetic pole shifts, oceans currents, and volcanic activity on Earth. Trillions of dollars have already been spent to attempt to cool the warming planet to no avail. If we STOP all C02 today, nothing will change! Fossils prove the climate has warmed and cooled many times in the past cycles with NO HUMANS even being present. Your EV makes no difference! Humans cannot stop the cycles of the Earth. If you are serious about learning and not whining, you can start here. ua-cam.com/video/LnpSSrPD5mE/v-deo.html then go here The 12,000 year cycle - next one is approximately 2043 ua-cam.com/video/PX_2twSZFa8/v-deo.html and more here just to start. Hi Simon, thanks for the great video! A question, could you compare this idea of aperiodicity to the Poincaré recurrence effect? • @Banminator7

I asked ChatGPT, and receieved this answer: In summary, the Lorenz attractor illustrates a chaotic system where trajectories do not cross, and the system displays sensitive dependence on initial conditions. Despite this, the Poincaré recurrence theorem still holds for such systems in a broader sense, ensuring that states will eventually recur within the finite measure of the attractor's phase space. The recurrence times might be long, and the exact nature of recurrence might be complex and difficult to observe directly, but the principle remains valid. Does this mean that even a chaotic system still might recur to one of it's previous states due to the Poincaré recurrence theorem, even though it's phase trajectories don't cross?
